History and commitment

Rendsburger Kreisbahn RK 12

As a replacement for the planned acquisition of the steam locomotive KDL 10 of the Rendsburger Kreisbahn , the locomotive was purchased in 1951 as the company's second diesel locomotive. It was also intended to replace steam locomotives in passenger transport. In addition, it was equipped with additional sleeve buffers for use on the four- rail port route in order to be able to maneuver standard-gauge freight wagons. The locomotive with 120 hp was given the designation RK 12 at the Kreisbahn . When operations on the circular track ended in 1957, the locomotive was still relatively new and was sold on.

Kleinbahn Selters – Hachenburg V 12

With financial help from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , the locomotive was acquired in 1957 by the Selters – Hachenburg railway . Jung made some improvements to it beforehand. With the center wheel set have been flanges weakened to improve the Kurvenläufigkeit. The fluid transmission was provided with a shift cylinder for emptying, in order to switch off the power flow when the safety driving gear is activated . The buffers were too low for the direct coupling of the locomotive with standard gauge wagons, but their position was retained, as was the serial number 12 .

The locomotive was intended for the remaining operation on the Selters - Herschbach section in freight traffic. After the KSH was shut down , the locomotive was sold to the Leer-Aurich-Wittmund small railway in 1961 .

Small train Leer – Aurich – Wittmund D 12

In the small train empty Aurich-Wittmund the locomotive was used from 1961 and scrapped 1968th The standard-gauge buffers have been set higher for roll -head operation. This gave a different look with higher, smaller lamps.

technology

The locomotive had a simple front structure for the machinery, behind which was the driver's cab. On the side in the front there were doors for maintenance of the machinery. In the driver's cab the driver's desk was in the middle of the front wall. Controls for driving and braking were available on both sides of the cab. The locomotive had a simple sheet metal frame with stiffeners and was designed as a welded construction. The buffer beams were additionally reinforced.

The machinery consisted of a six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine. The Voith transmission had a start-up and a walking converter. The reversing gear was from Jung. It was screwed to the fluid transmission. Thus, a disposed between the second and third axes was jackshaft driven, the drive axles through side rods.
