Rene Matthew Kollar

Rene Matthew Kollar OSB (born June 21, 1947 in Hastings , Pennsylvania ) is an American Roman Catholic monk , priest and historian .

Life

In 1967 he joined the Benedictine monastery community of the Archabbey of St. Vincent and took the simple vows on July 11, 1968 and the solemn vows on July 11, 1971. The Bishop of Greensburg William Connare consecrated him on May 18, 1974. He was ordained a priest by the Archbishop in the Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica .

Kollar attended Saint Vincent Prep School. He studied from 1965 to 1970 at Saint Vincent College (BA 1970), from 1970 to 1973 at Saint Vincent Seminary M. Div. (1973), from 1978 to 1980 at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London and at the University of Maryland (MA 1975 and Ph.D. 1981). He teaches as a professor of history at Saint Vincent College.
