Rener is the husband of actress, model, and former pro wrestler Eve Torres.

Rener trained with Rorion and Helio Gracie at the Gracie Academy for over 25 years. Rener and his brother Ryron Gracie founded Gracie University, an online martial arts learning center, and developed distance learning for their own courses.

He also has two half-sisters, Rose and Riane Gracie, from his father's first marriage and three half-brothers, Roran, Renon and Ricon, from his father's third marriage.

Rener received his black belt in 2002 from Grand Master Helio Gracie. He took part in the Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championship in 2003 and took 3rd place.

Later that year, Rener took part in the first ever Pro-Am Invitational in Southern California, a 16-man individual elimination tournament with no time limit. Rener was the only one of 16 competitors to wear a GI . He dominated all four fights. His opponents were Jon Stevenson ( UFC fighter), Cassio Werneck (BJJ world champion), Jason "Mayhem" Miller (UFC fighter) and Tyrone Glover .

In 2004, Rener withdrew from the point-based sports jiu-jitsu competition to focus on the aspect of self-defense on the street of jiu-jitsu.

Gracie University

Rener is known for his skills as a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu teacher and his role in popularizing Jiu-Jitsu through online training.

He started teaching Gracie Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 13, and six years later he and his brother Ryron took on the role of principal at the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

He and his brother oversaw all aspects of education and program development at a company that consisted of resident training at its Torrance, Calif. Headquarters, plus an additional facility in Beverly Hills, Calif., Which opened its doors on June 4, 2012.

They also have a global network of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified Training Centers, advanced training through the web-based Gracie University and DVDs, and on-site training for law enforcement and military personnel. The brothers completely revamped existing Gracie Academy programs developed by their father and created several new programs to make it easier to export their lessons through distance learning and cadre training.

In 2017, they moved to a larger facility in Torrance to accommodate Gracie Jiu-Jitsu's global expansion and were renamed Gracie University to reflect the move from a single academy to a global organization.

Gracie Breakdown

The brothers use YouTube to promote Gracie Jiu-Jitsu through formats such as The Gracie Way and The Gracie Breakdown. These are comments on mixed martial arts and real-life self-defense situations in which the brothers explain the techniques, highlight the strategies that are used, or explain what could have been done better. Ryron and Rener's video analysis of a match between Fabrício Werdum and Fedor Emelianenko was one of the most watched videos on YouTube on June 28, 2010 with over 100,000 views in 24 hours. Gracie breakdowns can now be seen in the US on the weekly UFC show 'UFC Ultimate Insider'.
