Republic of Piratini
The Riograndensische Republik or Republik Piratini ( Portuguese : República Rio-Grandense or República do Piratini ) was a state in southern Brazil .
It was created on September 11, 1836 after the Battle of Ceibal as part of a secession from Brazil and proclaimed by General Antônio de Sousa Neto , who designated Bento Gonçalves da Silva as president. The constitution of the republic was adopted in Alegrete in 1843 . The capital was the city of Piratini . Sousa Neto led the republic through the Farrapen Revolution .
With the Treaty of Poncho Verde , which ended the Farrapen Revolution, the Republic of Piratini was dissolved on March 1, 1845 ; it has since formed the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul .
