The Republican People's Party ( Egyptian Arabic حزب الشعب الجمهورى DMG Ḥizb aš-Šaʿb al-Ǧumhūrī ) is a - according to its own statement - liberal party , which, however, mainly consists of former government ministers of Egypt . It was founded in 1992.

In the 2012 presidential election - the first democratic presidential election in the entire history of Egypt  - the People's Party supported the presidential candidate Amr Mussa , who was the former leader of the Arab League . Party member Hazem Omar denied rumors that the party was made up of remnants of the former Mubarak regime (felul) .

In the general election in 2015 , which was largely boycotted by the opposition , the party ran as part of the so-called Egyptian Front , which also included the Egyptian Patriotic Movement and the once opposition el-Ghad party . The Republican People's Party received 198,822 votes in the first round and secured 11 seats. She had put up a total of 42 candidates and 146 runoff candidates. In total, the party received 13 seats in the House of Representatives .
