Die Republikein (The Republican) is an Afrikaans-language daily newspaper in Namibia , based in Windhoek .

In addition to Afrikaans, individual reports are also printed in English and Oshivambo . The basic direction of the newspaper is considered conservative. Special supplements appear irregularly, mainly on the subjects of agriculture and vehicles .

history

The Republic was founded and financed by the Republican Party (RP) in December 1977 and acted as the mouthpiece of the RP. In the course of political change, the Democratic Gym Alliance took over the financing of the newspaper in the 1980s. After Namibia's independence in 1990 , the newspaper was taken over by Namibia Media Holdings and tried to regain its political neutrality.
