Father Gerhard Eberts

Father Gerhard Eberts MSF (born May 12, 1938 in Welschen Ennest , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a Roman Catholic father, journalist and author .

Life

Eberts attended the Missionaries of the Holy Family boarding school in Adolfsburg Castle . In 1959 he entered the order of the Missionaries of the Holy Family, and on March 6, 1966 he was ordained a priest in Trier Cathedral by Matthias Wehr .

Journalistic career

Eberts graduated from the Bavarian School of Journalism and in 1968 took over the order magazine Sendbote , which appeared in Augsburg , at the same time he was editor of the monthly magazine Weltbild until 1984 . From 1987 to 1991 he was editor-in-chief of the Augsburg church newspaper Ulrichsblatt , during which time he made several trips to the mission areas of his order for the emissary, including Madagascar (1984), Indonesia (1987) and Brazil (1988).

Between 1991 and 2000 Eberts was head of studies and lecturer at the Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists in Munich . He particularly took care of the development of journalism courses in the new federal states . In 1996 he was elected chairman of the Working Group on the Catholic Press (AKP), a position he held until 2001.

Today Eberts works as a university chaplain in the Catholic University Community of Augsburg and since July 14, 2010 he has been responsible for coordinating the press and public relations work of the Diocese of Augsburg .
