from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The United Nations Security Council Resolution 1278 was a resolution that the United Nations Security Council adopted on 30 November 1999 at its 4075th meeting without a vote. With the resolution, the panel took note of the resignation of Stephen Schwebel , one of the judges at the International Court of Justice , on February 29, 2000 and stated that the vacated judicial post would have to be filled for the remainder of the court's term of office and that, according to Article 14 of the Statutes of the International Court of Justice the Security Council set the election date.

The Security Council therefore decided that the General Assembly of the United Nations should elect a successor to Schwebel on March 2, 2000 and at the same time called on the members to nominate candidates.
