The Resolution 212 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that the United Nations Security Council decided in 1243. Meeting on 20 September 1965th She deals with the application of the Maldives to become a member of the UN. The Security Council recommends that the UN General Assembly accept the Maldives.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Great Britain was in retreat from the area east of the Suez Canal. On July 26, 1965, Ibrahim Nasir Rannabandeyri Kilegefan , (Prime Minister of the Maldives) and Sir Michael Walker, British ambassador as representatives of their heads of state, agreed to end the British protectorate over the Maldives and to give them independence.
