Resurgam is the third album by American hip-hop musician Alias . It was released in 2008 on the Anticon label, which was co-founded by Alias .
Emergence
While Alias was rapping and producing at the beginning of his career , he decided after his debut album The Other Side of the Looking Glass (2001) to focus more on instrumental music. In 2003 his first purely instrumental album Muted and Resurgam also renounced rap (with the exception of the song Well Water Black ).
After Alias lived in Oakland , California for eight years (like most of the artists under contract with Anticon), Resurgam was born in Portland , Maine , the place where Alias grew up. "Resurgam" (English "I Will Rise Again") is Portland's motto and translates as "I will rise again". Alias chose this title as a symbol of returning to his homeland.
The album can be classified as instrumental hip-hop and also shows influences from electronica and trip-hop . Feature guests can be heard on two songs : The rapper Yoni Wolf from Why? on Well Water Black and the indie band The One AM Radio on Weathering .
