The Rethwiese is an uninhabited island in the Schaalsee . It belongs to the community of Seedorf (Lauenburg) , Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein , but is located directly on the border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which runs a few meters east of the island through the Schaalsee.

The flat island rises only a few meters above the water level of the Schaalsee, the surface of which is about 35 meters above sea ​​level . The core of the island, which consists of an Ice Age moraine ridge and is located a good five meters above the surface of the lake, is forested, while the lower lying areas of the island are surrounded by thick belts of reed.

Numerous species of birds breed on the island. Rethwiese, which lies directly on the edge of the Schaalsee biosphere reserve belonging to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , is generally not allowed to be entered.
