Revolutionary cells (Greece)

The Revolutionary Cells ( Greek Επαναστατικοί Πυρήνες Epanastatiki Pirines ) was a left-wing extremist terrorist organization in Greece formed in 1995 . It is estimated to have very few members and it is believed that they did not commit any more attacks after November 2000. They mainly committed acts of violence with an anti- US , anti- NATO or anti- EU background. The group is classified as a terrorist organization by the Council of the European Union and the USA .

The group confessed to or is held responsible for the following attacks:

  • May 11, 1997: Bomb attack on the water police in Piraeus
  • August 19, 1997: Bomb attack on the office of the former Greek Interior Minister Stelios Papathemelis
  • November 24, 1997: Bomb attack on the office of a national organization of the former chairman of the Greek judges' association Kokinos
  • June 30, 1998: Bomb attack on the Ministry of Education building, injuring three police officers
  • December 29, 1998: Citibank and Barclays bombings
  • April 27, 1999: Bomb attack on an InterContinental Hotels Group hotel against the Economist forum, in which a woman was killed
  • December 19, 1999: Bomb attack on the US oil company Texaco
  • February 28, 2000: Bomb attack on METKA (due to a NATO order from the company in Kosovo )
  • March 5, 2000: Attack on the construction company AKTOR
  • October 14, 2000: unexploded bomb against ex-Minister for Shipping Sumakis
  • November 13, 2000: three bomb attacks on two American Citigroup banks and on the studio of a sculptor who worked for the American embassy
