Rhadi Ben Abdesselam

Rhadi Ben Abdesselam (born February 28, 1929 in Ksar-es-Sauk , † October 4, 2000 in Fès ) was a Moroccan long-distance runner who achieved his greatest successes in cross-country running and in marathons .

At the Cross of Nations , a forerunner of the official cross-country championships that have existed since 1973, Rhadi took 15th place in 1958 and 8th place in 1959. In 1960 he won the competition in front of the Belgian Gaston Roelants .

At the 1960 Olympic Games , he finished 14th in the 10,000 meter run in 29: 34.4 minutes. Two days later, on September 10, 1960, he took part in his first and only marathon and won silver after 2: 15.41.6 minutes behind the Ethiopian Abebe Bikila . This made Rhadi the first Olympic medalist in Morocco.

In 1962 he finished 10th again at the Cross of Nations .

His best time over 10,000 meters of 29: 20.8 minutes comes from his most successful year, 1960. That year he reached 19,907 meters per hour. With a height of 1.80 m, his competition weight was 65 kg.
