Rhaphidura is a small genus of birdsin the family of the sailors (Apodidae), to which two species can be assigned: the silver-rumped swift nativeto Southeast Asia and the swamp swift foundin equatorial Africa . Both species are quite small representatives of theChaeturini tribe .

features

The body length of both species is approximately 11 centimeters. Both representatives of the genus have predominantly shiny, dark plumage and a white area from the rump to the upper tail covers. In contrast to the silver-tailed swift , the swamp swift's belly and under- tail-coverts are also colored white.

In both species, the upper tail covers the tail completely. The “tail thorns” typical of representatives of the Chaeturini tribe protrude well beyond the end of the tail, but are very thin.

Systematics

The species of this genus were originally assigned to the genus Chaetura , in the course of the division of the genus Chaetura by RK Brooke in 1970 , the Rhaphidura species became an independent genus. Despite the sometimes held view that these species are closely related to those of the genus Zoonavena , the status of these genera has not changed since then.

The following species are included in the genus:
