Rheinturm Düsseldorf : lighting for the 70th anniversary of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia

The Rheinkomet is a light installation built in 2016 on the Rheinturm in Düsseldorf . The installation includes 56 xenon gas discharge lamps that can be individually moved and controlled at a height of 195 meters. It was put into operation on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia . The installation was designed by the light artist Klaus Gendrung on behalf of the Düsseldorf community foundation DUS-illuminated . It contained the strongest bundled light emission worldwide and thus replaced the light beam at the Hotel Luxor in Las Vegas .

Initially, the installation was only planned for the anniversary. Because of the high public approval, work is now being done to set it up permanently and use it on special occasions. However, there are also critics who point out the problem of light pollution .
