The Rhenania brewery was a brewery based in Krefeld . Most recently she was best known for her Altbier , the Rhenania Alt . Rhenania Alt has been brewed in Kreuztal since 2002 .

history

Hermann Josef Wirichs bought the Et Bröckske brewery in Krefeld in 1838 and ran it as the Rhenania brewery . Robert Wirichs, the founder's son, took over the brewery in 1876. In 1888 she moved to Krefeld-Königshof because the previous brewery was too small. The Et Bröckske restaurant , a traditional Krefeld beer bar, continued to be owned by the family. In the years that followed, the brewery continued to expand, including the Union Brewery in Krefeld in 1916 , the Thomas Peter Schmitz Brewery in Kempen in 1919 and the Bacher Brewery in Meerbusch - Osterath in 1932 .

Until 1980, other types of beer , such as B. Pils and Hell- Export produced. In the 1990s, in addition to Rhenania Alt, there were the varieties Wirichs Light (reduced alcohol) and Krefelder (mixed beer drink with cola ). In line with the general trend, the demand for Altbier continued to decline.

Rhenania Alt's production in Krefeld ended on February 28, 2002 . The Rhenania Robert Wirichs brewery sold the brand, brewing and delivery rights to the Krombacher brewery , with which a sales network had existed for a long time.

The Krefeld brewery site, which was originally supposed to be closed, has been run as the Königshof brewery since 2003 .
