Rhiginia cruciata is a species of bug from the family of predatory bugs (Reduviidae). In English, the bugs are also referred to as scarlet-bordered assassin bugs ("scarlet-red-edged murder bugs ").

features

The bugs become 12 to 16 millimeters long. They are orange-red with dark colored hemielytres . The scutellum is predominantly black in color. There is a large trapezoidal black spot on the posterior pronotum. The apical part of the femora of the yellow-brown legs is colored black.

Distribution and habitats

The species occurs in the Nearctic . In the United States , it is represented in the south and east. Their distribution area extends on the east coast from New Jersey to Florida and in the west from Illinois to Texas.

Way of life

The mostly nocturnal and crepuscular bedbugs feed predatory on pipods. The kind is univoltin. The adult bedbugs can be seen between April and October and usually overwinter under tree trunks.
