history

The ship was built in 1959/60 at the Schimag shipyard in Mannheim for G. Zimmermann in Stuttgart and was named Schwabenland . The machinery consisted of two 750- hp - diesel engines of Deutz . The construction of the Schwabenland , which was one of the first cabin ships on the Rhine, was the highlight of Schimag's shipbuilding history.

The ship was sold to the Schweizerische Reederei AG in 1962 . It was given the new name Ursula , its home port was Basel , and it was now operating for the Alpina-Rhein-Linie operated by Schweizerische Reederei AG in passenger service on the Rhine between Basel and Rotterdam . In 1963 the ship was lengthened: since then it is 83.27 m long and 10.94 m wide and has a 1.50 m draft . It could carry up to 120 passengers in 60 cabins. The Deutz engines were replaced by 4 × 225 hp engines from Mercedes-Benz.

On October 23, 1976, the Ursula rammed a bridge pier and sank. It was lifted on November 18, 1976 and then repaired and put back into service.

From 1976 to 1992 there were several changes in the ownership of the ship to various subsidiaries of the Schweizerische Reederei and Neptun AG, which was created in 1975 from the merger with the Neptun companies: 1976 (Toba AG, Basel), 1981 (Nagar AG, Basel), 1986 (Boatel AG, Basel) and 1992 (EC Line, Basel).

In 1992 the ship was completely renovated, with two new 1015 HP engines from Deutz , and got a new name, Rhine Princess . In 1997 the ship was sold to Travel AB AG in Montreux , 2000 to Grand Circle River Cruise AG, and in 2001 finally to Princess River Cruise AG in Basel . The Rhine Princess is used today in the Voyage Charter by various tour operators on the Rhine and its tributaries. At times it is also used as a hotel ship at trade fairs , especially in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt am Main, and other major events . In 2015 she was briefly used by Blessing River Tourism.
