Rhipsalis clavata is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Rhipsalis clavata grows epiphytically with initially upright, later hanging, richly branched shoots and reaches a length of up to 1 meter or more. The green to purple-colored, cylindrical to club-shaped, clipped shoots are up to 5 centimeters long and 2 to 3 millimeters in diameter. They branch out at the top in a whorl of two to seven shoots. Areoles are only present near the shoot tips.

The bell-shaped, white flowers appear on the side of the shoots or at the tip of the shoots. They are up to 15 millimeters long. The spherical fruits are whitish to light pink in color.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Rhipsalis clavata is common in the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in the Atlantic forest at altitudes of up to 1,600 meters.

It was first described in 1892 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . A synonym is Erythrorhipsalis clavata (FACWeber) Doweld .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT)", d. H. listed as low risk.
