Rhipsalis cereuscula is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Rhipsalis cereuscula grows epiphytically shrubby to bushy with mostly hanging, richly branched shoots with limited growth and reaches a length of up to 60 centimeters. Compound areoles sit on the shoot tips . The shoots are clearly twofold. The cylindrical, almost rotating main shoots are 10 to 30 centimeters long and 3 to 5 millimeters in diameter. The side shoots form widely spreading tufts. They are four to five-sided, 1 to 3 centimeters long and also reach a diameter of 3 to 4 millimeters. The areoles are covered with two to four bristles.
The bell-shaped, white flowers appear at the shoot tips. They are 8 to 15 millimeters long and 10 to 20 millimeters in diameter. The obovate fruits are white.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Rhipsalis cereuscula is distributed in the east and south of Brazil , in Bolivia , Paraguay , Uruguay and in the north of Argentina at altitudes of 200 to 1400 meters.
It was first described in 1830 by Adrian Hardy Haworth . A nomenclature synonym is Erythrorhipsalis cereuscula (Haw.) Volgin . Another synonym is Rhipsalis penduliflora N.E.Br. (1877).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
