Ribonucleoproteins (synonym ribonucleoproteins , RNP) are protein complexes that contain RNA . Such complexes are, for example, the ribosome subunits, the spliceosome , the holo- telomerase , the snRNP 's and hnRNP 's, the nuclease RNase P and various translation initiation factors, all of which are located in the cell nucleus . They occur in all living things. Another example of such complexes is the RNA Induced Silencing Complex (RISC), which binds to the double-stranded siRNA during RNA silencing , degrades one of the two strands and then binds to and degrades a target sequence RNA (target RNA).
