The Ricarda-Huch-Gymnasium is a municipal high school for boys and girls in the center of Krefeld .
history
Today's high school was opened on October 1, 1848 as a private secondary school for girls in Crefeld by the first headmistress, Minna Basses, on what was then Nordwall (later Nordstrasse). A year later the school moved to Königstrasse, and in 1869 the third school building on the Westwall was inaugurated. In 1874 the city of Krefeld took over the former private school. Due to a lack of space in the building on the north wall, the fourth school building on Moerser Strasse was inaugurated in 1911, and it still houses the school today. When the name was renamed in the Third Reich, the school was named Karin-Göring-Schule in 1938. During the Second World War, the building was badly damaged by the air raids on Krefeld on June 22, 1943, whereupon the Karin Göring School was merged with the Gudrun School in Uerdingen (now the Gymnasium am Stadtpark). On October 1, 1945, classes were resumed in the old building. In 1958 the school was finally renamed the Ricarda Huch School after the German poet Ricarda Huch . In 1975 the co-education was introduced , in 1997 the new scientific building was inaugurated.
School offer
Commercial English
The Ricarda-Huch-Gymnasium is the only gymnasium in Germany that offers the ability to acquire the IHK foreign language correspondent certificate for English at the same time as the Abitur . In addition to the advanced English course, a four-hour course is taken every week in grades 12 and 13.
DELF diploma
The students of the Ricarda-Huch-Gymnasium can prepare for the DELF diploma (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Francaise) offered by the Institut Français in Düsseldorf once a week . This enables them to compare their knowledge internationally using the Central European Framework of Reference (CEF).
Individual support
At the Ricarda-Huch-Gymnasium, low-performing students can take part in the school's internal tutoring program “Students help students” once a week. Here the subject matter is processed and questions are clarified. The contact persons are high-performing students from higher grades.
As part of the promotion of gifted students, there is the option of not only choosing the second foreign language (Latin or French) from grade 6 onwards, but also of taking both languages as part of a "revolving door model" in which the students are always alternating in the various courses and learn.
