Ricardo Ojeda Lara (born January 26, 1993 in El Puerto de Santa María ) is a Spanish tennis player .
Career
Early years (2008-2017)
Ricardo Ojeda Lara started playing tennis at the age of six. He trains at Tenisval , a tennis academy near Valencia . He did not play on the Junior Tour and began playing professional tennis matches in 2008. Until 2014 he played almost without exception on the third-rate ITF Future Tour . Only then did he get the first two titles and three other finals from 2013 onwards. As a result, at the end of the season he was in the top 400 of the world rankings for the first time . He was also able to win his first match on the ATP Challenger Tour in Seville . In 2015 he was able to maintain his ranking with one title and three finals, but still failed to establish himself on the Challenger Tour. In doubles, Ojeda Lara won a title every year from 2012 to 2017, but never made it over the threshold of the Top 500.
In 2016 he had a small breakthrough when he won six futures and worked his way into the top 300 by the end of the year. The same picture emerged in early 2017 when he quickly won three futures and thus had enough points to play on the Challenger level. In addition, he was able to participate in the qualification of the French Open and Wimbledon , but did not make the jump to the main tableau. After the Spaniard reached a Challenger semi-final in Liberec in the Czech Republic in August , he won the title in Meerbusch two weeks later . In the final, he beat the Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer in two straight sets. With 80 world ranking points, he advanced to 187th by the end of the year.
Premiere on the World Tour (2018)
The year 2018 began Ojeda Lara with his first qualification for an ATP World Tour event in Pune , where he immediately reached the peloton . Here he held against the world number 62. Jiří Veselý got the upper hand and then beat the Belarusian Ilja Iwaschka before losing to the eventual winner Gilles Simon .
