Riccardo Misasi

Riccardo Misasi (born July 14, 1932 in Cosenza , province of Cosenza , † September 21, 2000 ) was an Italian politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), who was a member of the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) between 1958 and 1994 . He held several ministerial offices in different governments.

Life

Member of the Chamber of Deputies and Undersecretary of State

After attending school, Misasi completed a law degree at the Collegio Augustinianum of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) in Milan . As a candidate for Democrazia Cristiana (DC) , he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ) for the first time in the May 25, 1958 elections, to which he was a member for almost 36 years until the March 28, 1994 elections .

During his long membership in parliament, he was a member of the judiciary committee in the third legislative period between June 1958 and May 1963. From July 1959 to June 1962 he was also a member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, State Organization, Regions and General Order of the Public Service. In the fourth legislative period he was a member of the Agriculture and Forestry Committee from July 1963 to January 1964.

On December 8, 1963, Misasi took over his first government office in the first Moro cabinet , as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Justice (Sottosegretario di Stato a Grazia e Giustizia) . He also held this post in the subsequent second and third Moro cabinet until June 24, 1968. During the fifth legislative period, between July and December 1968, he was a member and at the same time chairman of the Committee for Education and Fine Arts. He was then a member of the Committee on Public Works from July 1968 to May 1972.

On August 5, 1969, Misasi was appointed to a ministerial office by Prime Minister Mariano Rumor in his second cabinet as Minister of Foreign Trade (Ministro del Commercio con l'Estero) and held this ministerial office until March 27, 1970. In the following third Rumor cabinet and in the Colombo cabinet and in the first Andreotti cabinet, he held the office of Minister for Public Education (Ministro della Pubblica Istruzione) between March 27, 1970 and June 26, 1972 .

Misasi was a member of the Committee on Industry, Trade, Crafts and Foreign Trade in the sixth legislative period between May 1972 and January 1975 and was also chairman of this committee from July 1972 to January 1975. From January 1975 until the end of the seventh legislative period in June 1979 he was a member and chairman of the Judiciary Committee. During the eighth legislative period between July 1979 and July 1981 he was again a member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, State Organization, Regions and General Order of the Public Service. From July 1981 to January 1984 he was again a member of the Committee on Industry, Trade, Crafts and Foreign Trade.

In the ninth legislature, he was a member of the Committee on Education and Fine Arts between January 1984 and July 1987. During the tenth legislative period, he was initially a member of the Justice Committee again from August 1987 to December 1991. In the De Mita cabinet , Misasi was Undersecretary of State to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the Council of Ministers (Sottosegretario di Stato alla Presidenza del Consiglio) between April 13, 1988 and July 22, 1989 . He was then in the sixth Andreotti cabinet from July 22, 1989 to July 27, 1990 Minister without Portfolio for Special Measures in Southern Italy (Ministro senza Portafoglio per gli interventi straordinari nel Mezzogiorno) . In the seventh Cabinet Andreotti he held between 12 April 1991 and 28 June 1992 again the Office of the Minister of Public Instruction. In addition, he was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Affairs of the European Community from December 1991 until the end of the eleventh legislative period in April 1994.
