Richard Alan John Asher , MD, FRCP (born April 3, 1912 in Brighton , Great Britain , † April 25, 1969 in Marylebone , Great Britain ) was a British medic at Central Middlesex Hospital.

Life

Asher Internist named Munchausen Syndrome for the first time in an article describing the associated clinical picture . The article appeared in 1951 in " The Lancet ", a renowned medical journal. He was the father of actress Jane Asher and Peter Asher , a member of the pop duo Peter & Gordon and music producer.

Richard Asher suffered from depression in later years and died at the age of 57, allegedly by suicide .
