The Richard Bethge GmbH is a watchmaker from Ispringen in Enz in Pforzheim .

history

The company was founded in 1939 by Richard Bethge. Within a few years it developed into one of the larger German watch and dial manufacturers. This development was thanks to Richard Bethge, who, in addition to numerous inventions in the field of pilot's watches, also founded the Pforzheimer watchmaking school.

During the Second World War, Richard Bethge optimized the Breguet hairspring and the compensation unrest for the Wehrmacht's pilot's watches on behalf of the German Wehrmacht. The aim was to significantly increase the accuracy of the clocks and to prevent external influences. The rapid technical development of aircraft during the Second World War made ever higher speeds and more extreme flight maneuvers possible, which could greatly influence the accuracy of the pilot's watches. Richard Bethge received several awards and recognitions for his developments. His achievements in optimizing the accuracy of pilot's watches were only known after the end of the war, as they were subject to confidentiality.

When the five sons joined the company in the 1950s and 1960s, the industrial manufacture of watches from individual parts began. In 1965 the company had more than 100 employees.

Today the company is one of the last family-owned German watch manufacturers with more than 15 employees and is managed by Alexander Bethge. In addition to Bethge & Sons , the watch factory owns the brands Brandtaucher and Das Boot . Bethge is also a world leader in dial restoration.

The company is represented every year as an exhibitor at Inhorgenta europe in Munich and Ussifa in Hamburg.
