Richard Price Cavanaugh (born June 30, 1948 in Denver , Colorado ) is a retired American luge athlete .
Cavanaugh first appeared in 1972 in Sapporo, Japan at the Winter Olympics . With his partner Robert Berkley , he finished 17th in a two-seater. At the 1976 Winter Games in Innsbruck , Austria, they came in 23rd in doubles. In the individual run, Cavanaugh finished 25th. Together with Berkley, he was both national and North American champions in the two-seater in 1974 and 1975.
Cavanaugh grew up in Hermosa Beach , California and studied at the University of Colorado . After finishing his playing career, he moved to Pinehurst , North Carolina .
