Robert Olen Berkley junior (born September 23, 1948 in Denver , Colorado ) is a retired American luge athlete .
Berkley won together with Richard Cavanaugh in 1974 and 1975 the doubles title at both the US and North American Luge Championships. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo and 1976 in Innsbruck , they finished 17th and 23rd.
After his luge career , Berkley switched to roller derby , where he became the American banked track champion in 1998 . Between 1997 and 1999, as well as 2001 and 2002, he also won the national championship title in the 10,000 m race on the inclined track.
Berkley had attended Grand Junction High School in Colorado and later studied at the University of Colorado .
