Richard Eaton

Richard Eaton (born January 16, 1914 in Victoria , British Columbia , † January 25, 1968 in Rhodes ) was a Canadian choir director, organist and composer.

Eaton was organist at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria from 1930 to 1935 . He then went to Montreal where he worked as organist and choirmaster at St Martin's Church and studied with Claude Champagne at McGill University . From 1939 to 1944 he taught at Upper Canada College in Toronto , then at Ottawa Technical High School .

Since 1947 he taught at the University of Alberta in Edmonton , where he headed the music faculty. He served on the boards of the Edmonton Opera Association and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, and traveled with the university's mixed choir. In 1951 he founded the University Singers , whose conductor he was until 1967. The choir was named after Richard Eaton Singer's death .

Eaton composed numerous anthems and folk song arrangements .
