Richard Jobson (Explorer)

Richard Jobson was a 17th century English explorer.

Jobson traveled and explored the West African River Gambia from 1620 to 1621 . In January 1621 he reached the Barrakunda Falls , about 500 kilometers from the confluence with the Atlantic Ocean . A month later he reached the Tenda Empire further east . In May he left the Gambia, but was commissioned with another expedition on the river in 1624, which was unsuccessful.

He wrote the book The Golden Trade about the first trip . This work also contains the first description of the game Mancala by a European. He later published the book The Discovery of the Country of King Solomon .
