Richard Kieckhefer

Richard Alan Kieckhefer (born June 1, 1946 ) is an American medieval historian .

Life

After basic training at Saint Louis University , he received his doctorate in history from the University of Texas at Austin in 1972 , and spent a year in Munich at the Monumenta Germaniae Historica with the support of the DAAD . He is Professor of History and John Evans Professor of Religious Studies at Northwestern University .

His research focuses on late medieval religious culture, including mystical theology, magic, witchcraft, and church architecture in relation to parish religion.

In 2006, Kieckhefer was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
