Richard Leising (born March 24, 1934 in Chemnitz , † May 20, 1997 in Berlin ) was a German poet who is assigned to the Saxon Poet School . In 1992 he was awarded the Christian Wagner Prize .

Leising was born in 1934 as the son of a craftsman and initially studied theater studies in Weimar and Leipzig. He received his first engagement as a dramaturge after completing his studies at the city theater in Crimmitschau . He lost these and other jobs, for example as a lecturer at "Henschel Verlag", due to his political and social commitment. As a result, Leising worked as a freelance TV dramaturge and theater critic for many years. From 1973 to the beginning of 1990, Leising worked as a dramaturge at the East Berlin "Theater of Friendship".

Less than fifty poems were published during Leising's lifetime. His work "Poesiealbum", published in 1975, was only followed in 1990 by a second work under the name "Broken German". For "Broken German" Richard Leising was the first author ever to be awarded the then newly founded Christian Wagner Prize .

Leising died on May 20, 1997 after a long illness in Berlin.
