Richard Meier (born December 8, 1906 in Nendeln , † 1982 ) was a Liechtenstein politician (FBP).

biography

Richard Meier was born in 1906 as the son of Jakob Meier and his wife Maria (née Biedermann). He attended elementary school and then, like his brother Rudolf, went to the Stella Matutina Jesuit college in Feldkirch , Austria . There he graduated from high school in 1925 . Meier now studied at the University of Innsbruck for two years philosophy and theology before 1927 finally changed his field of study and Dentistry at the University of Bonn studied . In 1931 he received his doctorate. He opened his dental practice in Schaan in 1932 and worked as an independent dentist until his death. (His practice was taken over by his son Heinz. His sons Andreas and Philipp followed in 2008.)

He was a founding member of the Liechtenstein Homeland Service . However, already resigned from this at the beginning of 1934, because more and more National Socialist ideas came to bear in this. In the autumn of 1940 he acted as chairman of the Liechtenstein loyal association and was subsequently active as a leading member in the national movement. From 1945 to 1970 Meier was party president of the Progressive Citizens' Party . In the late 1970s, the now 70-year-old became the first president of the newly founded Liechtenstein Society for Environmental Protection.

In 1960 he was awarded the title "Princely Medical Councilor" by Prince Franz Josef II for his services to the State of Liechtenstein and his services as a dentist in the Princely House .
