Richard Ogorkiewicz

Richard Marian Ogorkiewicz (born May 2, 1926 in Bydgoszcz , † November 24, 2019 in London ) was a Polish-British engineer specializing in armored vehicles.

Life

Richard Ogorkiewicz, born as Ryszard Marian Ogórkiewicz , was a son of the Polish Colonel Marian Ogórkiewicz (1898–1962). With the invasion of the Wehrmacht , the family fled first to Romania and in February 1940 to France. In May of the same year she went to Scotland, where Richard Ogorkiewicz attended school. Richard Ogorkiewicz went to Imperial College London to study mechanical engineering . After completing his studies, he initially stayed for research and teaching at Imperial College. He then worked on gas turbines for Humber and Ford . From 1957 to 1985 he was back at the Imperial, where he concentrated on armored vehicles. Because of his focus, he was an independent member of various bodies of the British Defense Scientific Advisory Council from 1972 to 2006 . In 1979 he became a lecturer, from 1988 visiting professor at the Royal Military College of Science in Shrivenham . In 1993 he became the curator of the tank museum in Bovington .

Richard Ogorkiewicz has published numerous articles in magazines, most notably in Jane's International Defense Review .
