Richard Reynolds (Author)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Reynolds (* 1977 ) is a British author and activist of the guerrilla gardening movement .

Life

As a student, Richards developed his "green thumb" at a boarding school. In front of the skyscraper in the Elephant and Castle district of London ( London Borough of Southwark ), where he lives, he began illegally beautifying public spaces in 2004. He narrowly escaped arrest. Reynolds is now legally allowed to plow the beds in front of his house and is paid for by the community. He is still rather critical of the development in cooperation with the municipalities because of the large amount of bureaucracy.

He runs the website www.guerrillagardening.org, one of the contact points for “illegal gardeners”. Reynolds' policy is that it is not necessary to obtain approval from the administration for planting actions.

Works

In his book Guerilla Gardening - a botanical manifesto , translated into German , he describes the political, social and artistic aspects of wild gardening. Reynolds explores the origins of the guerrilla term and spans the range up to current examples of guerrilla gardeners around the world. Half of the book consists of practical instructions for wild gardening (equipment, “tactics” and the choice of botanical means).

Positions

Richard Reynolds opposed the commercialization of the movement with a commercial for a "green line" for the adidas sports brand . The spot shows “Garden Guerillas” wearing adidas clothing on a nightly mission. The spot ran in English cinemas from April 2008. Richard said: "This commercial is totally ridiculous ... I couldn't believe it when I first saw it."
