Richard Rowles

Richard Rowles (born January 3, 1973 in Lae , Papua New Guinea ) is a former Australian boxer and Olympian from 1996 and 2000.

Career

Richard Rowles won the Australian championship title in 1993 and 1995 welterweight, 1997 and 2000 light middleweight, and 2004 middleweight.

At Oceanic Championships he won the welterweight title in 1994 and 1995, and in 1998 and 2000 in the light middleweight division. In addition, Rowles was a bronze welterweight medalist at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada .

Richard Rowles also boxed twice in the Olympics. In 1996 he retired in Atlanta in the first fight against György Mizsei . In 2000 in Sydney he defeated Juan Ubaldo in the preliminary round before losing to Felix Sturm (actually Adnan Ćatić) in the round of 16 .
