György Mizsei

György Mizsei (born November 30, 1971 in Kiskunfélegyháza , Bács-Kiskun County ) is a former Hungarian boxer . György was a bronze medalist at the 1992 Olympic Games and the 1991 and 1996 European Championships .

Career

amateur

In 1988 György won the bronze medal in the light welterweight division (-63.5 kg) at the European Junior Championships (U19) in Gdansk .

At the European Championships in 1991 György started in the welterweight division (-67 kg) and won the bronze medal after he had to admit defeat to Vladimir Erestchenko, Soviet Union (29:20) in the semifinals . The following year he qualified in light middleweight (-71 kg) for the 1992 Olympic Games , in which he won after victories over Fabrizio de Chiara, Italy (13: 4), Hendrik Simangunsong, Indonesia (17: 5), and against the later Professional world champion Maselino Masoe , Samoa (17: 3), reached the semi-finals. In this he met Juan Carlos Lemus , Cuba , and had to admit defeat to this with 10: 2 points, whereby he won the Olympic bronze medal.

This greatest success of his career was followed by several unsuccessful years for György. Both in the boxing world championships in 1993 and 1995 , he was eliminated in the first fight. Things went better for him at the 1996 European Championships . He was only eliminated here in the semifinals against Markus Beyer , Germany (12: 4), and thus fought for a bronze medal again. In the same year he started again at the 1996 Olympic Games , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Beyer (14: 3) after defeating Richard Rowles , Australia (10: 2).

professional

In 1997 György started a very short professional career. After only two fights, of which he lost one to the eventual world champion Armand Krajnc , he withdrew from the ring. However, after nine years he returned and played two cruiserweight bouts in 2006 and 2007 , of which he won one and ended in a draw.

Others

György's son Gyorgy Mizsei Jr. is also a boxer and has been a professional since 2012. He is trained by his father.
