Armand Krajnc (born August 7, 1973 in Malmö ) is a Swedish boxer of Slovenian origin and former world champion of the WBO middleweight division.
amateur
As an amateur boxer, he played 70 fights, of which he won 62. In 1995 he took part in the light middleweight division at the World Championships in Berlin , but was eliminated in the second preliminary round by losing points to the Czech Pavel Polakovič.
Also at the European Championships in 1996 in Vejle , Denmark , he lost in the light middleweight division already in the preliminary round just on points against the Ukrainian Sergei Gorodnichew.
professional
He became a professional at Universum Box-Promotion in Germany in 1996 and won his first 21 fights against opponents with an often negative match record. On February 14, 1998, he won the International German Middleweight Championship; he defeated the still undefeated Croat Vedran Akrap in the Maritim Hotel in Stuttgart . He achieved another success just a month later against the Albanian Bahre Ahmeti (26-4).
After WBO title holder Bert Schenk was unable to defend his title for a long time due to injury in 1999, it was revoked . The Briton Jason Matthews (21-1), who in the meantime had risen to become interim world champion, was then named WBO world champion. Krajnc got the chance to box for the title on November 27, 1999 in Lübeck and won superiorly by tKo in the eighth round, whereby he had his opponent on the ground in the first round.
In March 2000 he defended the title by knockout in the second round against the American Jonathan Corn (29-2) and in October 2000 by tKo in the sixth round against the undefeated Bert Schenk (24-0). Due to a dispute with his promoter Universum, he resigned the title in June 2001, but received it back from the WBO shortly thereafter. In November 2001 he beat Sweden's Paolo Roberto (23-2) in his third defense of the title .
On April 6, 2002 he lost the title in Copenhagen by a point defeat to the undefeated Namibian Harry Simon (22-0). He then rose to the super middleweight division, but surprisingly lost his next duel, planned as a build-up battle, with the Russian Sergei Tatewosjan (15-3) prematurely. He was able to win the next three fights and then became a challenger to IBF and WBA title holder Sven Ottke (33-0). Krajnc clearly lost the fight on points and, like Ottke, ended his career afterwards.
In January 2007 Krajnc wanted to return to the ring in Gothenburg at the first professional boxing event in Sweden since 1969. However, he was denied his license for medical reasons.
