Richard Schubert (born July 1, 1886 in Mülsen St. Jacob ; † December 24, 1955 in Zwickau ) was a German politician ( KPD ). He was a member of the Saxon state parliament .

Life

Schubert, son of a linen weaver, completed an apprenticeship as a weaver and worked in various textile companies. In 1903 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). For health reasons, he was not called up for military service during the First World War . In 1917 he joined the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD). In November 1918 Schubert headed the Zwickau Workers 'and Soldiers' Council and was one of the founding members of the Spartakusbund in Zwickau. From mid-January 1919 he was the first chairman of the KPD local group.

During the Kapp Putsch in March 1920, Schubert was chairman of the Zwickau Action Committee. He separated from the KPD and became chairman of the Communist Workers' Party of Germany (KAPD) in Zwickau and the surrounding area. In 1924 he rejoined the KPD and was elected to the Zwickau city council, where he led the communist parliamentary group. Initially a municipal employee, Schubert worked as a pastry chef at the consumer cooperative until 1930. On February 26, 1931, Schubert replaced the resigned Margarete Nischwitz as a member of the Saxon state parliament.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, Schubert tried to continue to exercise his mandate. In March 1933, he told the Presidium of the Landtag that he wanted to continue his mandate as a non-party. His request was not granted, rather he was taken into “protective custody” and taken to the Osterstein Castle . He was released in December 1933 and was under police supervision until 1939. Schubert withdrew from any political activity and worked in his wife's flower shop.
