Richard Thompson (comic artist)

Richard Thompson (born October 8, 1957 - July 27, 2016 in northern Virginia ) was an American comic artist .

Thompson started out as a graphic artist for various print media. In 1997 he started the weekly comic strip Richard's Poor Almanac for The Washington Post newspaper , and in 2004 he started the daily comic Cul de Sac about four year old kindergarten child Alice . The series became a success and 70 other US newspapers printed the strips. In 2010 Thompson received the Reuben Award . In September 2012 he ended the series Cul de Sac for health reasons; he had been suffering from the effects of Parkinson's disease since 2008 , which he succumbed to in July 2016 at the age of 58.
