Richard Versalle
Richard Versalle (born December 3, 1932 in Muskegon ( Michigan ), † January 5, 1996 in New York City , USA ) was an American oratorio and concert singer (tenor), and then a successful opera singer , he specialized in the heroic tenor subject .
Life
At the Bayreuth Festival in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1989 he sang the title role in the Wagner opera Tannhäuser . In 1981 he made his debut in Germany at the Saarbrücken Opera as Otello in the Verdi opera of the same name. Title role in Peter Grimes and Siegmund in Die Walküre (1988) followed at the same house.
Versalle died under macabre circumstances during the performance of the opera " The Makropulos Affair " at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Standing on a three-meter-high ladder, he gave the legal assistant Vitek in the opening scene and fell to the ground shortly after he had sung the words "You only live for a limited time" after a fatal heart attack.
