The Richards Cove is a small cove on the north coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is one mile east of Essex Point .
The British navigator James Weddell named an island immediately north of this bay as Richards Island between 1820 and 1823 . This name is probably named after John Richards, captain of the sealer George from Liverpool , who operated between 1820 and 1821 in the waters around the South Shetland Islands. This island is now called Window Island . In order to preserve Weddell's name, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred it to the bay described here in 1959.
