An executioner's block is a block of wood on which the head or other body parts have been cut off with an ax , also known as an ax , usually by an executioner . In particular, beheading by the ax was a common form of the death penalty in Europe until the 1930s. In Central Europe the execution block sometimes stood on a scaffold (a wooden platform) in public places. However, the straightening sword was not used on the straightening block .

Several museums, such as the Sauerland Museum, the Märkisches Museum in Berlin or the Museum Ephraim-Palais in Berlin, exhibit straightening blocks.
