The Lange Ida was a 115 meter high radio relay tower made of reinforced concrete in the Rosendahl district of Osterwick . The Osterwick radio tower was built in 1973 and was used for police radio . The tower was a landmark of the place and got its name after a landlady whose restaurant was in the immediate vicinity of the tower.

The Long Ida falls

With the availability of inexpensive fiber optic connections with very high capacities, the importance of the radio relay system in Osterwick declined. It was shut down by Amprion GmbH in mid-2012 and blown up on February 9, 2013.
