Directional gunner (short: K1 ) is the general term used in artillery troops for the gunner who is responsible for aiming the gun at the target according to azimuth (aiming horizontally / horizontal pan) and elevation angle (aiming vertically / vertical alignment). particularities

Deviating from the terms used in artillery troops, other terms can be used for typical protection activities of the gunners concerned.

In the armored forces of the German Armed Forces, for example, the following terms are used in the same sense of the word for the handling of the combat gun:

  • Gunner (for directional gunner , or K1) and
  • Loader (for load gunner, or K2)
Anti-tank guided weapons
  • Steering contactors is the commonly used function designation for controllers of anti-tank guided weapons of the Bundeswehr
  • Directional gunner is the special functional name for the controller of an anti-tank guided missile ( e.g. PALR / SPz BMP-1 )
