Rick Spielman (* 2. December 1962 in Massillon , Ohio ) is an American official in American football . Since 2012 he has been General Manager of the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL). Previously, as Vice President of Player Staff, he assumed the duties of General Manager without being designated as such.

Career

Spielman attended Southern Illinois University and played on the local college team as a linebacker . In 1987 he joined the NFL as a free agent . Both the San Diego Chargers and the Detroit Lions a year later took him on to their training team, but decided against a permanent contract. The Detroit Lions hired Rick Spielman in 1990 as a college scout . In 1995, the Chicago Bears brought him to the team as a personnel manager. Two years later, he took the same position with the Miami Dolphins . In 2002 the Dolphins promoted him to Vice President and a year later to General Manager .

2006 Spielman left the Dolphins for Minnesota. As with the teams before, he took over player management at the Minnesota Vikings as vice president. He is also responsible for scouting. During his tenure there were important obligations in the NFL Draft , for example Adrian Peterson , Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin . Since 2012 he has been General Manager of Vikings.
