Rick von Bracken (born on February 5, 1964 in Marburg an der Lahn as Richard Gordon Ernst Helmut von Bracken ) is a German jazz and entertainment musician (tenor, soprano and alto saxophone , piano / keyboards , composition ), studio producer and instrumental teacher.

Live and act

Von Bracken, son of special school teacher Helmut von Bracken , received classical piano lessons from 1970 to 1983. In 1977 he founded his first jazz band, in 1978 he began to play the saxophone as a self-taught . In 1983 his “Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra” was premiered in Marburg. After graduating from high school at Philippinum Marburg and doing civilian service, he studied musicology , economics and sociology in Heidelberg from 1984 , where he also performed with various bands and has been a professional musician since the mid-1980s. In 1987 he co-founded the trio Triplicated , which played modern jazz , and led a quintet with Peter Klinger. Between 1989 and 1994 he was co-leader of the modern dance band , his own quintet existed between 1992 and 1997, and since 1990 he has led the Cool Cats Orchestra , with which he released two albums until 2007. From 1994 he concentrated more on mainstream jazz and founded a. a. with Allen Blairman the international formation Four 4 Jazz .

Since 1989 he has also been active as a studio musician; Between 1997 and 2001 he was tenor saxophonist with the Sydney Ellis and Her Yes Mama Band . In 2001 his “Suite for String Orchestra and Woodwind” was premiered in Öhringen , and in 2006 his symphonic fantasy “Machine Emotion” in Heidelberg. From 1997 to 2001 he toured with blues singer Sydney Ellis. Since 2003 he has been the saxophonist of the Christian rhythm 'n' blues band Plug'n Pray . Today he appears with the Ewood Brothers , Rixx Jazz Band and the group Two Steps . He can also be heard on albums with Maisha Grant & the Bluesfeeling, Valenthin Engel, Sigi Bohnert or the Tostedt Community Gospel Choir .

Prizes and awards

The song he composed, Kein Broadway (text: M. Dignal and E. Schumacher) won the special prize for the most professional contribution in the 2003 competition "Ein Lied für Öhringen" and was released as a single in the same year (Casino Records).
