Family coat of arms of the Ridolfi di Borgo

Ridolfi di Borgo is the name of a family who lived in Florence from the late 13th century to the middle of the 17th century . Your residence in Borgo San Jacopo is responsible for the nickname "di Borgo". It served to distinguish it from the families Ridolfi "di Ponte" and Ridolfi "di Piazza" , who were also resident in the city .

history

Little is known about the Ridolfi di Borgo family. Their origin is indicated with Fiesole. Her residence was on Borgo San Jacopo Street, not far from the Ponte Vecchio and the Church of San Jacopo Soprarno, in the Gonfalone del Nicchio ( Gonfanon, banner of the shell), Oltrarno district .

Between 1290 and 1513, the family won a priory of the Signoria 41 times and the election of gonfaloniere 9 times . A catalog published in 1532 lists the Gonfaloniere della Giustitia with the date. The following standard bearers are listed under the family name Ridolfi di Borgo:

  • Bartolo di Ridolfo: mid-February to mid-April 1328
  • Schiatta di Ridolfo: March & April 1355; November & December 1368
  • Uberto di Schiatta: July & August 1400; May & June 1405; September & October 1419
  • Schiatta di Uberto: November & December 1425
  • Bartolomeo di Schiatta: March & April 1464
  • Iacopo di Bartolomeo di Schiatta: November & December 1473

In 1384 Bartolo di Schiatta Ridolfi was deputy of the city of Florence for the acquisition of the city of Arezzo . In the 17th century, Niccolò Ridolfi wrote an important manuscript with the names of the priors and the most important events that had occurred during their tenure ( priorista ). Bartolomeo di Ridolfo Ridolfi of the Order of the Jesuits was venerated as Beato (Blessed). In 1654 this branch of the Ridolfi family died out.

The family coat of arms is divided into two halves: above azure blue with three horizontally arranged golden spheres, below silver. (In the reconstruction shown, the proportions are slightly shifted to the disadvantage of the blue color field.)
