Ridolfi di Ponte is the name of a noble family who lived in Florence from the 2nd half of the 13th century to the middle of the 18th century . Your residence at the foot of the Ponte Vecchio is responsible for the nickname "di Ponte". It served to distinguish it from the families Ridolfi "di Borgo" and Ridolfi "di Piazza" , who were also resident in the city .

history

The origin of the Ridolfi di Ponte family is not clear. One source mentions the descent of Gianni di Ridolfo di Bonsignore, who was 1256 elder and 1260 captain of the Florentine district of Oltrarno at the Battle of Montaperti and who wanted to belong to the Canigiani family. Another source only gives the marital bond between the two families. This means that at least the origin from Fiesole is considered certain. Between 1287 and 1416, 12 family members obtained a priory of the Signoria, one of whom was elected Gonfaloniere . A catalog published in 1532 lists the Gonfaloniere della Giustitia with the date. Under the family name Ridolfi di Ponte, Iacopo di Guerruccio is listed as a standard bearer for November & December 1349.

The residence was at the foot of the Ponte Vecchio at the corner of Via de 'Bardi, in the Gonfalone della Scala ( Gonfanon, banner of the stairs), in the Santo Spirito district . This is also confirmed by the family's entry in the Libro d'oro del patriziato di Firenze (Golden Book of the Patriciate of Florence) by decree of February 15, 1751. This was initiated by either Zanobi or his son Lorenzo Bonaventura di Zanobi, born in 1693. With the death of the latter on January 17, 1758, the dynasty became extinct. The property passed to his daughter Maria Adola, wife of Pietro Mancini.

The family coat of arms is a silver shield with an azure blue St. Andrew's cross and a red tournament collar in the upper quarter. The sources for the lambello are divided : Sometimes it is given as five- digit , sometimes as angioino , i.e. three- digit .
