Riedbahn is a district of the southern Hessian city of Weiterstadt . It is about one kilometer from the city of Darmstadt and is part of the Weiterstadt district.
The district area is east of the Frankfurt-Darmstadt motorway . The name is based on the now disused railway line from Darmstadt to Ried in Hesse . The first apartments were built along the former Darmstädter Straße (today Riedbahnstraße). After the Second World War, a few houses with agricultural employment were built. At the beginning of the 1960s, the development of the industrial and commercial area began on the former parade ground . The Riedbahn was named as an official district on May 26, 1983 by the regional president in Darmstadt. The 2011 census counted 1434 inhabitants.
Local parties are the ALW (Alternative List Weiterstadt) and the FWW (Free Voters Weiterstadt).
The majority of Weiterstadt's income comes from industry and commerce in the district. The LOOP5 shopping center opened there in October 2009 . The town hall of Weiterstadt is also located in a former office tower in Riedbahn.
